A Kansas Country Garden: Spring Glows!

Who can look at a daffodil and not smile? They are just so darn cheerful. And why not? Spring is here. It must be. I think the daffodils are smiling, too.
Hyacinths have a lovely, but sometimes overpowering scent.

A few species tulips have begun to bloom.

The dramatic contrast between the burgundy foliage and the chartreuse bract of Euphorbia cyparissias 'Fen's Ruby' make it a striking plant. The foliage will soon change to a light green color with a silky texture. This is a "take-over-the-world" plant, but I am still glad to have it in my garden.

Grape hyacinth, Muscari, are blooming with a cheerful vigor.

Unlike tulips, daffodils tend to multiply in my garden.

Looking Back at the First week in April:
In 2013 it looked much this year--lots of daffodils.
In 2012 magnificent lilacs had already begun to bloom. No blooms yet in 2014, but there is hope. In 2013 almost all of the lilac blooms were lost to a late freeze.
